My family has been involved with alternative health and healing through diet and nutrition since I was very young and more intensely since I was around seven years old. My mother had many books and practices, which she tested as to their effectiveness and the family tried certain things as they chose to.
I was always excited to test the latest discovery and decide about my thoughts on it based on my personal results alongside the soundness of the premise. There were diets I embarked on for health and weight loss but the procedure of all change and most effective outcome for healthier lifestyle was always to do a cleanse first for a limited amount of days; gradually coming out of that into clean habits.
There is a watermelon cleanse I have embarked on from time to time, which is actually very effective but the season is somewhat limited. There is a company of Parasite cleanse supplements called ‘Awareness,’ that is very potent for this purpose. I used one of their products that I found helpful for elimination in that.
The cleanse I enjoy the most, however, and recommend highly is called ‘the Master Cleanse,’ or ‘the Master Cleanser Lemon Diet,’ pioneered by Stanley Burroughs, an American Naturalist. There is a link to the method on my links page but I will give the basic just of the cleanse here:
For two days it is helpful to eat lightly, with much fruit to prepare, with the Laxative tea the night before beginning and the salt water flush the next morning (see below). Then for a minimum of ten to forty days for extreme cases of ill health, drink only this mixture, taking from six to twelve 8 oz glasses per day. I found this in his book ‘Healing for the Age of Enlightenment.’
The mixture consists of:
- 2 Tbs of maple syrup,
- 2 Tbs of lemon juice (or half a lemon),
- 1/8 tsp of cayenne pepper,
- 8-10 oz of water stirred together in a glass.
Lemon may be squeezed ahead and refrigerated, but the mix is best done when drinking. Use ripe lemons and the pulp.
Another part to this cleanse is to take a tea each night of Laxative or Dieter’s tea, which usually has Senna leaves as an ingredient, and then perform a salt-water inner bath the next morning.
The salt-water flush or inner bath is as follows:
Using a quart of luke warm to warm water, place 1 tsp of sea salt into the water and stir. Drink the water quickly and give an hour after for elimination as this cleanses all of the materials that the lemon and cayenne have removed from the digestive system and the tea has loosened the night before.
This process is repeated each morning and night; tea at night, salt-water flush in the morning, and lemon juice during the day. The maple syrup supplies vital nutrients.
